We are immensely grateful to everyone who attended our seminar today!
Your active participation and insightful questions made the event a resounding success.
A special thank you to our esteemed keynote speaker, Dr. Bhaskar Jyoti, whose comprehensive analysis shed light on the nuances of caste dynamics among the Indian diaspora in the UK. His field research underscored that instances of caste discrimination are often amplified by those with vested interests, rather than reflecting a widespread issue. Dr. Jyoti emphasized how the younger generation of the Indian diaspora is largely indifferent to caste distinctions, highlighting a significant shift from the older generation.
We also extend our gratitude to Mr. Siddhant Mishra for his excellent moderation, steering the discussion towards a deeper understanding of these complex issues. Lastly, our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Prerna Singh for delivering the vote of thanks and summarizing the session beautifully.
Key points discussed:
The caste system is not primarily present in the Indian society in the UK.
Cases of caste discrimination are often highlighted by those with vested interests.
Dr. Jyoti’s field visits revealed more instances of vested interests than actual caste discrimination.
The older generation of the diaspora might retain some sense of caste (not caste as present in India), but the younger generation does not regard caste distinctions.
Endogamy practices do not necessarily translate to caste discrimination.
Once again, thank you for making this seminar a success. We look forward to your continued support and participation in our future events.
